NYPD officers shot at on Staten Island, 2 men in custody

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two NYPD officers were shot at as they sat in their police car on Staten Island on Thursday evening, police said.

Two men were in custody at the 120th precinct stationhouse in connection with the shooting, and police said they may be looking for more people.

The two officers were sitting in a police department vehicle at Wayne Street and Broadway in West Brighton around 5 p.m. when shots rang out.

Witnesses reported hearing at least a couple of gunshots and seeing a man running down the street.

It's unclear how close the shots came to the officers. Police said they weren't injured and that they didn't return fire.

NYPD detectives canvassed the area as NYPD helicopters flashed spotlights onto the streets below.

An investigation into the shooting was ongoing Friday.
