NYPD responding to fatal shooting in Harlem led on car chase on FDR

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police were led on a pursuit while responding to a fatal shooting Monday night in Harlem, according to officials.

Officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired at 118 Street and 1 Avenue at approximately 10:20 p.m., on March 15.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unidentified man, unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head and a firearm was recovered in close proximity to the victim, according to the NYPD.

EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Police also observed a vehicle of interest, a silver BMW sedan, flee the location heading southbound on the FDR Drive.

Officials followed the vehicle and observed a man exit at East 53 Street.

Authorities took that 33-year-old man into custody at the location and officials also recovered a firearm.

The vehicle continued to flee on East 53 Street and a second man is still sought by police, according to police.

An investigation remains ongoing.
