Cuomo: Patient in NYC hospital tested positive for South African variant; no evidence of spread

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- There is a patient in an NYC hospital who tested positive for the South African variant hospital Governor Andrew Cuomo reported during his briefing on Monday.

According to officials, the Patient was transferred from Connecticut directly to the NYC hospital and there is no evidence of any spread in New York state to date.


According to Cuomo, the state's COVID-19 positivity rate is at 3.53 percent and continues to decline.

Hospitalizations are at 6,623 1,270 patients in the ICU and 103 fatalities reported.

COVID positivity in New York City is at 4.47 percent:

Bronx: 6.11 percent
Manhattan: 2.70 percent
Brooklyn: 4.53 percent
Queens: 4.64 percent
Staten Island: 4.44 percent
Long island: 4.62 percent
