NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 53-year-old woman was struck by a pair of cars while crossing a street in the Melrose section of the Bronx on Saturday, the NYPD said.

At 7:12 p.m. on Saturday evening, the pedestrian was crossing Melrose Avenue at the intersection of 157th Street when a northbound white Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV hit her and continued driving, police said.

After the hit, the woman was hurled into the opposite lane and was struck by a gray Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound on Melrose Avenue, officials said.

Police identified the victim as Lourdes Camilo, of the Bronx.

Camilo experienced trauma to the head and body, and authorities said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the Grand Cherokee hit-and-run, police said that the 53-year-old male driver of the Wrangler stayed and waited for officials.

Based on surveillance footage of the incident obtained by the New York Post, the woman walked halfway into the crosswalk, and while waiting for cars driving southbound on Melrose Avenue to pass, was hit by the Grand Cherokee and in quick succession the Wrangler.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
