NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — In two separate incidents that occurred hours apart on Saturday, a 12-year-old girl sustained head and foot injuries and a 68-year-old jaywalker is in critical condition after being struck by drivers in Queens.
In Kew Gardens Hills, a 12-year-old girl was walking along Main Street near 73rd Avenue when she was struck by a car, officials said.
She was transported to an area hospital and is receiving treatment for injuries to her head and one foot.
According to police, the 20-year-old driver remained at the scene. She was issued a ticket for failure to yield.
At about 6:35 p.m., a 68-year-old jaywalker was crossing Borden Avenue mid-block at 11th Street in Long Island City when he was hit by a gray 2016 Volkswagen.
Police emphasized that the man was not at a crosswalk, and he stepped out in front of the driver who was headed eastbound on Borden Avenue.
The jaywalker was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in critical condition, though he is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
The man suffered a broken left leg, pain to the head and a minor laceration to the face.
Authorities said that the male driver, 52, stayed at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
