NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A person is in critical condition after he jumped into the Hudson River, prompting a water rescue effort on Thursday.

According to the NYPD, just before 4 p.m., a male, about 18-years-old, jumped over the railing at Pier 76 near 34th Street and 12th Avenue.

The victim immediately began yelling for help, authorities said.

NYPD's Scuba and Aviation Team responded to the location and two divers jumped into the water to begin searching the river for the victim.

FDNY rescue boats attended nearby.

The victim was located about 15 minutes later and divers brought him to a NYPD boat then took him to shore and into an ambulance, officials said.

He was transported to Mount Sinai West in critical condition.
