NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are questioning a person of interest in the fatal stabbing of a 47-year-old woman inside her Harlem apartment early Tuesday.

At about 4:30 a.m., the mother of four, identified as Carmen Lopez, was found stabbed multiple times in the torso at her residence at 409 West 129th St., authorities said.

Lopez was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Purple balloons and lit candles now mark the building's door. Neighbors told 1010 WINS that Lopez had an on-again, off-again relationship.

A sign has been posted outside the building urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to call a hotline for help.

An investigation is ongoing.
