NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A person was shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in the Marble Hill neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, the NYPD confirmed after reports broke Thursday afternoon.

It happened during an operation on Marble Hill Avenue around 4 p.m.


The NYPD acknowledged the shooting in a post on social media, stating that it involved "federal law enforcement agents."

"The NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting," the department said. "The individual who was shot is at a nearby hospital and is currently conscious and receiving medical attention.

Gov. Kathy Hochul confirmed that she has been briefed on the situation in a post to social media.

"We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident," the governor wrote. "New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why."
