NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Some of the biggest names in New York politics showed up for the Al Smith charity dinner in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday night, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams and both U.S. senators from New York.
The white tie event was emceed by comedian Jim Gaffigan and headlined by Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump.
Trump, a New York native, returned to his hometown to rib fellow politicians at the white tie dinner, which benefits Catholic charities and is known for its bipartisan—if not somewhat awkward—atmosphere.

The dinner is often the last time two presidential nominees share a stage before Election Day, but Vice President Kamala Harris decided to skip the event in a rare move, instead opting to appear on a prerecorded video with comedian Molly Shannon.

Nevertheless, major state political figures—many of them Democrats—turned out for an event where Trump was the central figure. Among those at the dais of dignitaries were Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, New York A.G. Letitia James, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Gov. George Pataki. James notably won a civil fraud judgment of more than $450 million against Trump earlier this year in a lawsuit brought by the state.

Among those who Trump roasted was Adams, noting how they've both faced prosecution. "Mayor Adams: Good luck with everything," Trump said, adding that what Adams faces is "peanuts" compared to his own legal woes.
"I think you're gonna win," Trump told Adams. "And you're going to be OK."
Trump also ripped former Mayor Bill de Blasio, who too was in attendance, calling him "easily the worst" mayor. "To be honest, he was a terrible mayor," the ex-president said. "I don't give a s*** if this is comedy or not."
