NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police had one suspect in custody and were searching for a second Thursday in the fatal stray bullet shooting of a 7-month-old girl in Brooklyn.
The man still being sought was the alleged getaway driver in the shooting, police said, while the 21-year-old man in custody is the alleged gunman.
According to police, Kaori Patterson-Moore was not the intended target of the shooting around 1:20 p.m. in Williamsburg.
The little girl was in a stroller being pushed by her mother at Humboldt and Moore streets when shots rang out.
The baby was struck in the head, police said. She died at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.
The gunman and the getaway driver got away on a moped before crashing into an oncoming car, police said. The getaway driver was last seen running towards the Marcy Houses.
Witnesses said they heard a few shots at the time. “We’re lucky that we’re still alive around here,” said one resident, Cynthia. “I was just shocked.”
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said a "massive NYPD manhunt" is underway for the second suspect.
"At this time this shooting is believed to be gang-motivated, with the victim being an unintended target," she said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
