NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A human leg, possibly a child's, was found at a Bronx sewage control facility on Wednesday morning, sources told 1010 WINS.

The NYPD wasn't immediately able to confirm the remains are human, but sources told 1010 WINS it appeared they may be a human leg cut off at the knee with a foot attached.

The remains were found during sewage screening at the the city Department of Environmental Protection's Hunts Point Water Pollution Control Plant on Ryawa Avenue just before 8:30 a.m.

The medical examiner's office responded and determined it was a human body part, possibly from a child, the sources added.

The office will make a further determination and the investigation is ongoing.
