NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A prisoner was on life support Thursday night after he attempted to kill himself in a holding cell at Manhattan Criminal Court, sources told the New York Post.

According to the outlet, at around 6 p.m. at Manhattan's Central Booking detention center and court, 58-year-old Anthony Scott tried to hang himself using clothing after he was arraigned and sent to Rikers Island.

Scott was in the custody of Department of Correction guards at the time he tried to hang himself, according to the sources.

It is unclear why the officers did not notice or intervene, the Post added.

Scott is accused of assaulting a police officer and was arrested Wednesday for second-degree assault.
