NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A driver was arrested after he allegedly struck two protesters in Brooklyn on Tuesday night—and an NYPD vehicle responding to the incident also hit a protester on a bicycle, police said.
It came as events were held in the city to mark the one-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis last May.
A group of protesters were marching near the intersection of Adams and Tillery streets at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge around 10 p.m. when a man in a Volkswagen who'd just driven across the bridge encountered them, police said.
The 21-year-old driver attempted to maneuver his Volkswagen sedan through the crowd, and a witness told police that's when a protester jumped on the hood of his car in an attempt to stop the driver, police said.
The driver allegedly kept going and hit a different protester, police said.
An NYPD vehicle en route to the incident then hit a cyclist as officers were responding to stop the driver involved, according to police.
The three protesters refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Volkswagen was eventually pulled over a short distance away and arrested. Charges against him were pending.
