NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Thieves now appear to be willing to go the distance to break the law.

The stolen item in question? An R train.

The train was left secured on a layup track at the 71st Street station in Queens, but at around 10:20 p.m. last Saturday, some thieves had an idea of their own: a joyride.

Officials said MTA personnel noticed the missing R train after returning to the layup train and discovering the train's position has moved.

The bandits also posted video of the joyride to Instagram.

The train's windows were broken and the bandits covered a security camera with a black marker.

There were no passengers on the train.

So far there are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
