NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A raging fire broke out at an apartment building on the Upper West Side on Tuesday morning, injuring four people and sending smoke billowing over Manhattan.

The fire broke out shortly before 8:20 a.m. on the top floor of 201 West 107th St., a six-story building at Amsterdam Avenue.

Citizen App video shows a plume of smoke rising over the area. As the flames tore through the building, parts of a metal parapet came crashing down onto the street below, video shows.

About 150 fire and EMS personnel responded to the four-alarm fire, which was brought under control by 9:30 a.m.

Chief of Operations Kevin Woods said the first FDNY units were on the scene within three minutes. They managed to get everyone out safely, including a housebound man on the top floor.

“The fire started in his kitchen,” a woman who identified herself as the man’s cousin said. “He can’t walk, hardly walk. The home attendant comes at night. But they saved him. He’s out. He went in the ambulance.”

Four people were injured in total—three residents and a firefighter, who was burned. All of the injuries are minor, the FDNY said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
