Remote work to end for 80,000 NYC municipal employees in May: De Blasio

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced that remote work for 80,000 municipal employees will be ending in May.

City employees who have been working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic are set to return to the office on May 3, the mayor said at a news briefing.

"We’re doing this with a health and safety first perspective," de Blasio said of the return which will be staggered over the course of several weeks.

The city's approach will focus on distancing and ventilation, he noted.

"We’re going to bring back the workforce, but do it in a way that’s safe," he said.
