NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two violent incidents in and around New York City subway stations on Thursday morning left two young men hospitalized, police confirmed.
The first attack happened inside the First Avenue subway station in the East Village just after 8:10 a.m.
A 19-year-old was slashed in the thigh after getting into a verbal altercation with someone on the L train platform, officials said.
The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.
Police said that the suspect fled the station, but a person of interest was later taken into custody. Charges are currently pending.
Not even two hours later, at 9:45 a.m., police responded to a shooting near Jerome and Bainbridge avenues just outside the Woodlawn station on the 4 line.
A 21-year-old man was hit and rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
The circumstances that led to the shooting were not clear. Police have not said if a suspect is in custody.
Both investigations are ongoing.
