NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman’s torso was discovered near JFK Airport by a sanitation crew working roadside cleanup, the NYPD said Thursday.
The grisly find was made Monday morning at Brookville Boulevard and 149th Avenue in Rosedale, not far from the Nassau County border.
The sanitation workers came across a foul-smelling package in the brush that contained the decomposed torso. The woman’s head, arms and legs had been removed.
At a briefing Thursday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said “a knife was used to cut through the soft tissue, and a saw was used to cut through the bone” of the woman, who appears to be of Guyanese descent.
Police are using DNA analysis and searching missing persons reports as they work to identify her.
Kenny noted she had “several unique and identifying tattoos” that may help in the identification.
No arrests have been reported.
