NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested an unlicensed driver after a scooter driver died in a crash at a Brooklyn intersection Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
At approximately 1 p.m., Waki Knight, 41, was driving his Gaijin scooter north on Third Avenue near 51st Street in Sunset Park when he lost control, officials said.
Knight struck a red 2022 Honda driven by 26-year-old Justin Vargas, authorities said.
The scooter driver suffered a head injury and was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn where he was pronounced dead.
Knight was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police.
Vargas remained at the scene and was taken into custody after officers determined that he was driving with a suspended license, the NYPD said.
He was charged with being an unlicensed operator, officials said.
A gun was also recovered at the scene, WABC-TV reported.
