NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Scorching heat continued to grip New York City on Wednesday, but a cold front could bring severe weather before sending temperatures tumbling by about 30 degrees.
Wednesday’s high in Midtown is set to reach 93 degrees. That’s the same high as Tuesday and a few degrees short of the record of 96, set on May 20, 1996.
The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for most of the area, including all five boroughs, until Wednesday night.
While highs have been in the upper 80s and 90s all week, the heat streak will come to an end late Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.

Thunderstorms Wednesday evening could bring heavy rain, damaging wind gusts and even hail. Showers may linger overnight.
The city will wake up to much cooler temps on Thursday, with a high of just 64.
Cooler temps and periods of rain will last through the holiday weekend, with highs mostly sticking to the 60s.
