NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A driver mowed down a gun-toting carjacker—who fired off multiple shots—in a chaotic scene in Williamsburg on Tuesday evening, police said.
The driver was outside luxury apartments at 420 Kent Ave. around 7:30 p.m. when the armed thief tried to carjack him, according to preliminary info from police.
But instead of giving up the car, the motorist hit the gas in a bid to escape, striking the carjacker, who opened fire, police said.
Multiple rounds were discharged, but no one was hit.
The would-be thief, 20, was left bloodied by the car, and responding officers initially thought he'd been shot, police said.
He was taken into police custody and transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Charges against him were pending Wednesday.
Police said they don't expect to charge the driver.
