NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 68-year-old woman died and a 70-year-old man was critically injured after a hit-and-run driver crashed into their car on Staten Island Tuesday evening, police said.
Kauser Akhund, 68, of Staten Island, and a 70-year-old man were traveling east on Lamberts Lane in a Mercedes Benz around 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday when a driver traveling north on Elson Street in a Honda Accord hit them at the intersection, the NYPD said.
Akhund and the 70-year-old man were taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where Akhund was pronounced dead, police said.
The 70-year-old man was listed in critical condition with head trauma, according to police.
The Honda Accord driver fled the scene of the crash on foot and hadn’t been arrested as of Wednesday morning, the NYPD said. An investigation is ongoing.
