The John F. Kennedy Ferry, once the oldest remaining boat in the Staten Island Ferry’s active fleet, has transported commuters between Staten Island and Manhattan since it was first built in 1965.

The lucky winner, only identified by the handle "Pitalia211," made the final bid on Wednesday night — beating out 36 other contenders to purchase the ferry "as is" at $280,100, according to the New York City Citywide Administrative Services.

In its listing, the department warned that the ship's mechanics are in "poor condition and had to be decommissioned due to mechanical issues. ... On this vessel [there] are numerous spare parts which are obsolete and not needed by our agency."

Bidding for the 277 foot, 4.2 million pound boat started last week at $125,000, after a reported price drop.
