NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 69-year-old man was violently robbed at a Canal Street subway station in Chinatown this week, police said Wednesday as they released photos of the suspect.

The victim was on the southbound R platform at the station at Canal and Broadway around 11:15 a.m. Monday when another man approached from behind and attacked him.

The attacker put his arm around the victim's neck and then punched him in the face repeatedly while stealing his property, police said.

The suspect fled on foot before EMS arrived and transported the victim to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
