NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One straphanger was slashed across the face and another was punched in the face this past week in what appear to be the latest random attacks in the subway.

The unrelated pair of attacks happened at subway stations in Brooklyn and Queens and were seemingly unprovoked.

A 26-year-old man was aboard a northbound A Train headed to the High Street station in downtown Brooklyn around 11:50 a.m. last Saturday when he was attacked by a man, police said.

The suspect slashed the victim across the face with a sharp object before running away at the High Street station, according to police.

The victim suffered lacerations to his face and was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Two days later, on Monday morning, a 56-year-old man was attacked at the Queens Plaza station in Long Island City, police said.

The victim was waiting on the southbound R train platform around 9:15 a.m. when a man came up and punched him in the face with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground, according to police.

The suspect then ran up a flight of stairs and fled the station, police said.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.

The NYPD released surveillance images of both suspects on Thursday. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that the NYPD would increase its enforcement in the subway after several riders were pushed onto the tracks over just a few days.

Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa said his volunteer neighborhood watch group would also be upping patrols in the subway system.

On Monday, the New York Law Enforcement Labor Coalition said politicians need to "get out of the way" as subway crime is "getting worse daily."
