NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- New York is America's best city of 2023, thanks in part to its dramatic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new report that declares "this city is back."
Resonance Consultancy, a real estate and tourism advisory group that ranks U.S. metros annually, praised the city's turnaround, saying it was brought to its knees in 2020 only to come roaring back three years later.
"Sniping haters who declared that the big, vibrant, cheek-by-jowl city experiment was finally over as the urban exodus intensified in 2020 and vacancy in the city’s coveted real estate hit double digits were quickly silenced by the rebound," Resonance Consultancy says in its top 100 list released this month.

The ranking noted that 61 million tourists are expected to visit the city this year, nearly double the 33 million visitors in 2021.
The real estate market also rose from the ashes—from a 50% drop in sales mid-pandemic to the highest all-time median rents in Manhattan this spring.
The survey lauded the city's renovated airports, burgeoning hotels and flashy new attractions like Little Island and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt.

There are also the perennial classics that visitors love to take in, like Broadway, the Empire State Building and Central Park, the report said.
Some major milestones are being marked in the city this year, as well, including the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop music and the 100th anniversary of the Museum of the City of New York.
The other cities in the top five were Chicago (2), Los Angeles (3), San Francisco (4) and Washington, D.C. (5). Rounding out the top 10 were Miami (6), Boston (7), Seattle (8), Houston (9) and San Jose (10).
