Authorities believe Konrad Pielak stabbed a 24-year-old Turkish man around 12:15 a.m. on April 15 near West 44th Street and 9th Avenue while spewing anti-Turkish hate speech.
The victim said the attacker asked him if he was Turkish, and when he replied in the affirmative responded "I hate Turkish people" before stabbing him, the New York Daily News reported.
Pielak faces charges of hate crime assault, hate crime menacing and aggravated harassment based on race or religion.
