NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A suspect has been arrested in California in connection with the 2019 stray-bullet shooting death of a 14-year-old basketball player in Queens, the NYPD said Friday.

Sean Brown was taken into custody in California earlier this week in connection with Aamir Griffin's death, police confirmed to 1010 WINS. He is currently awaiting extradition back to New York City, the NYPD said.

Brown, 18, is an alleged gang member, according to the New York Post, which broke the news of his arrest.

Griffin, who was a freshman at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, was playing basketball on a court behind a Baisley Park Houses building in South Jamaica in October 2019 when a stray bullet hit him, police said at the time. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Surveillance video showed two people fleeing the scene after the teen was shot, the NYPD said.

Police couldn't immediately provide any additional details about Brown's arrest. His attorney information wasn't immediately available Friday.
