NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD is searching for an assailant who attacked a man down the street from Penn Station earlier this week in an anti-LGBTQ+ hate crime, police announced Thursday.
The 22-year-old victim was walking outside 323 West 34th St. at about 3 a.m. on Sunday when he was approached from behind by the suspect.
Police said that the man made anti-LGBTQ+ remarks before punching the victim multiple times, causing pain and swelling. He then fled the scene on foot.
The victim sustained a minor injury but was not hospitalized, officials said.
Police described the suspect as a man with a medium complexion, and he was last seen wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans with black and white sneakers.
The incident is being investigated by the NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force.
