Suspect who attempted to rob Verizon Wireless store employee sought

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Cops are searching for a man who tried to rob a Manhattan Verizon Wireless store employee on Monday but left empty handed.

The attempted robbery happened around 7:15 p.m. at 462 Avenue of the Americas in the West Village, police said.

A 22-year-old employee was helping the suspect after he inquired about buying something from the store. When she told the man that the store did not accept Apple Pay, he took out a gun and demanded the employee’s personal cell phone, according to officials.

The employee did not comply with the suspect’s demands. He eventually fled the scene on foot without any loot. The store employee was unharmed during the ordeal.

Police said the man they are looking for has a dark complexion, is about 5’10” and weighs about 180 pounds. He also has brown eyes and black hair.
