NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An SUV driver struck and killed a 73-year-old woman as she was in a Brooklyn crosswalk near her home on Sunday evening, police said.
The driver, a 57-year-old man, was behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee around 7 p.m. when he hit the victim in Midwood, according to the NYPD.
The driver was making a left turn onto East 12th Street from Avenue L when he struck her while she was in the crosswalk, police said.
She was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead. She was identified as Chana Layosh and lived just steps from where she was killed.
The driver remained at the scene, according to police, who said the investigation is ongoing and no criminality is suspected.
