NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One of several thieves who made off with 10 cars and more than $500 in cash in a string of Bronx robberies last month has been arrested, the NYPD said Thursday.
Windelson Montero, 18, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested and charged with robbery in connection with the string of thefts on Wednesday, police said.
Police are still searching for Montero's alleged accomplices, the NYPD said. Montero's attorney information wasn't immediately available on Thursday.
The NYPD said a 28-year-old employee was inside an office at White Plains Secure Parking on White Plains Road in the Allerton section of the Bronx around 3 a.m. on March 5 when four members of the group — one of whom was brandishing a gun — forced their way inside, threw the employee to the ground and ransacked the office.
The group made off with the employee's wallet, credit card and five vehicles: a Jeep Grand Cherokee, two Honda Accords, a Kia Optima and an Acura MDX, the NYPD said.
Two days later, around 5 a.m., five members of the group stole a Nissan Maxima from Amoco Gas Station on Allerton Avenue after one member broke one of the station's glass windows and grabbed car keys from inside, police said.
That same morning, five members of the group attacked a 66-year-old employee inside an office at Parkchester Tremont Parking on East Tremont Avenue before stealing $540 in cash and five car keys from an office, the NYPD said.
On March 9 around 3 a.m., four members of the group forced their way into an office at G and Sons Parking on Webster Avenue with a gun, tied up a 57-year-old employee and stole $180 in cash, as well as three vehicles — a Honda CRV, a Toyota Camry and a Porsche Panamera — and the employee's wallet, police said.
One member of the group also stole an unattended Toyota Rav4 from Westchester Avenue Car Wash around 5:30 p.m. on March 4, the NYPD said.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
