
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A teen boy was charged with manslaughter after a 17-year-old girl was shot to death in an apparent accident in Queens on Saturday, police said.
The 16-year-old was officially arrested late Sunday and is charged with manslaughter and gun possession, authorities said. The NYPD does not release the identities of minors charged with crimes.
Police responded to 87-25 Clover Place in Holliswood just before 5:15 p.m. on Saturday and discovered Deaza Barkley with a gunshot wound to her head.
Medics rushed her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The suspect was first taken into custody when officers arrived at the scene, and a gun was recovered.
Police said that the shooting was accidental.
It was not immediately clear who owns the gun.
