NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Two teenage girls died on Friday night off the coast of Coney Island after they ran into the water during stormy weather and drowned, authorities said.
Ages 17 and 18, the girls went missing in the water while it rained at about 8:10 p.m. near Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn.
Citizen App footage from the scene shows a strong rescue presence on the beach and in water and air vessels. Law enforcement, fire and medical personnel responded to the report.

The teens, who police sources said were related, were found on the shore at about 9:15 p.m.
The victims were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health where they were pronounced dead, police said.
Lifeguards are on-duty at Coney Island and Brighton Beach from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day during beach season. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are off-duty, or in closed sections of the beach, according to NYC Parks.
The deaths come weeks after two teenage boys, 16-year-old Elyjha Chandler and 17-year-old Christian Perkins, went missing while swimming off the shore of Jacob Riis Park in Queens.
Their bodies were found off the Rockaways on June 29 and June 30, and the medical examiner’s office confirmed that the pair drowned earlier this week.
