NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A young joyrider was back to his old tricks this week, breaking into the conductor’s cab of a 2 train, just weeks after he and other teens commandeered an R train in Queens, outraged officials said Wednesday.

“Thanks to an alert train crew and nearby NYPD officers, a teenager who had illegally entered a conductor’s cab on a 2 train was stopped and arrested before interfering with its operation,” said Michael Kemper, the MTA’s chief security officer.

According to cops, the 15-year-old was arrested on the 2 train at the Prospect Avenue station after “attempting to perform a crew function” on the train.

Authorities said he’s the same teen who was among a group of teen boys who took an R train on a joyride through a stretch of Brooklyn on Jan. 25.

Footage of the teens racing down a subway tunnel while dangling off the train went viral. Three of six teens, including the 15-year-old, have been arrested in that incident, with more still being sought.

“What’s outrageous is that this perpetrator was recently arrested—and rapidly released—after taking an R train for a reckless unauthorized ride in Brooklyn,” Kemper said.

“How does family court think it’s OK to risk the lives of riders and transit workers by failing to impose accountability?” Kemper's statement continued. “We’ve improved security in transit, and the justice system needs to make sure these repeat criminals get the consequences and parental oversight they clearly require.”
