
FIRE ISLAND, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 15-year-old surfer was bitten by a shark at a Long Island beach a day on Monday, authorities confirmed.
According to officials, the teen was bitten by the shark on his left heel and toes at Kismet Beach on Fire Island at around 5:20 p.m.
He was able to swim to shore where a good Samaritan helped the surfer until county marine bureau officers took him to the hospital, police said.
The teen’s heel and toes were intact, and he was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
At about 1:45 p.m., a 15-year-old swimming was bitten at Robert Moses State Park.
The girl was treated for three small puncture wounds on her left leg, officials said.
The park stayed open but swimming was temporarily shut down while lifeguards searched the ocean, officials said.
