Thief has snatched Apple products from at least 4 people in Midtown this month

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police are searching for a thief who stole iPhones from four unsuspecting women on Midtown streets this month, and the department released a photo of the suspect on Thursday to help in the search.

Over the past two weeks, police said that the wanted man allegedly approached four women between Bryant Park and Herald Square and snatched their cellphones.

All of the robberies occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and took place between Aug. 9 and Aug. 17, officials said.

Three iPhone 15 Pro Maxes and an iPhone 14 Pro Max were stolen from female victims ranging in age from 22 to 64. None of the women were injured in the robberies.

In each instance, after he grabbed the targeted phone, the suspect ran off on foot.

According to the latest NYPD data, grand larceny is down in the Midtown South Precinct by 14.4% when compared with this time last year. Through Aug. 18, there have been 1,279 instances of grand larceny, when there were 1,494 during the same period in 2023.
