NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Uber has launched a grocery delivery service in New York City that is currently available in parts of Manhattan, the company said Wednesday.
Some Manhattanites will now be able to open their Uber and Uber Eats apps, click a grocery icon and order items from chains including Gristedes, D'Agostino's and Westside Market, the company said in a release.
The company will roll out the service in the other four boroughs "in the coming weeks and months," the release said.
"When New Yorkers open the Uber Eats app, they already see the best selection of restaurants nearby, and today we're bringing New Yorkers that same robust selection in local grocery stores," Uber's global head of grocery, Raj Beri, said in a statement.
"We're excited to provide more opportunities for people to earn money on their own schedule, and bring the same convenience Uber users already know and love to grocery delivery," Beri added.
Users will be able to order groceries on-demand, or schedule times for deliveries, the release noted.
