$12K in subway surveillance cameras stolen from parked trains in Queens

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD launched an investigation after subway surveillance cameras were stolen last month from parked trains in Queens causing thousands in damages.

According to officials, at approximately 1:11 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, unknown individuals entered a layup R train in the tunnel area between the Briarwood and Sutphin Avenue stations, and moved the train approximately five feet.


It came into contact with another layup train that was in front of it, causing damage to them both.

Additionally, approximately $12,000 worth of surveillance camera equipment was stolen from 11 MTA subway cars. At least one suspect took cameras and memory systems from the cars of an R train after an an attempt to take the train for a joyride went awry, the Daily News reported.

The complaint report for reckless endangerment was filed on April 30 and an investigation remains ongoing.
