NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The MTA called on the NYPD to do more to protect its property after a 10-car train at a Brooklyn rail station was covered in graffiti over the weekend.

"We continue to ask the NYPD, who is responsible for patrolling these lay-up areas, to do more to prevent these costly incidents from occurring," said MTA NYC Transit interim President Sarah Feinberg in a statement Sunday.

The vandals covered the subway cars with large strips of blue and yellow paint and graffiti tags, video and photos shared on Instagram show.

An MTA train dispatcher discovered the vandalism around 6 a.m. Saturday on the B3 track of the Church Avenue station and notified transit officials, the New York Post reports.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy for vandalism, which takes valuable time, resources and taxpayer dollars away from the system at a time when the MTA is facing the worst financial crisis in its history," she said.

Recently, there were at least two dozen subway cars across six lines found covered with graffiti by MTA officials in Queens.
