NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD has lost another member to the coronavirus pandemic.
Det. Shantay Neal-Baker, 42, died due to complications with the virus, Commissioner Dermot Shea announced Saturday night. She was a 20-year veteran of the force assigned to the Risk Mitigation Division.
“We’re saddened to announce that today we lost another member of our NYPD family: Detective Shantay Neal-Baker, who faithfully served the people of NYC for 20 years, has lost her battle with #COVID19,” Shea tweeted.
“Our hearts go out to her friends & family — and we vow to #NeverForget Shantay.”
The NYPD, like other public agencies, has been hit hard by the pandemic. The coronavirus has killed dozens of officers, with the department memorializing 46 members who had passed away to the deadly virus last October.
As of late July, 43 percent of the NYPD’s force was vaccinated, according to a report in the New York Post.
