NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Horrific video released by the NYPD on Friday shows a gunman shooting a man in front of children on a Bronx street Thursday evening.
The children were not hit by the gunfire, according to police, who said a 24-year-old man was shot in the back and legs and was hospitalized in stable condition.
Police continued to search for the gunman Friday as they released video of him chasing the victim down a sidewalk on Sheridan Avenue, near E. Mt. Eden Avenue, in the Claremont section around 6:45 p.m.
Video shows the fleeing man running into two children, who fall to the ground with him. The gunman then comes up and shoots the man at close range as the kids duck beside him.
Neighbors and police told News 12 that the boy and girl are siblings who had gone to a nearby bodega to buy items for their family.
Police said the gunman fled on a scooter driven by a second man. The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on Sheridan Avenue.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
