VIDEO: Group steals over $70,000 in drugs, cash in month-long NYC burglary spree

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are searching for a group of men who have stolen well over $70,000 in drugs and cash in a string of break-ins, mostly at pharmacies, across Brooklyn and Queens over the past month.

Police said six pharmacies, a Payomatic and a bodega have been broken into in Astoria, Jackson Heights, Williamsburg, Bay Ridge and South Slope since March 15. The most recent burglary was at a pharmacy on Broadway in Astoria on Tuesday morning.

Police are searching for at least four suspects in connection with the break-ins, which all happened in the early morning hours.

Police said the thieves used a crowbar, a 2x4, rocks and other objects to smash the windows or doors to the locations.

Once inside, they stole or attempted to steal prescription drugs and cash, police said.

In one burglary they managed to steal an entire ATM containing $5,000. In others, they stole prescription pills valued at $27,000 and $30,000.

Police said the suspects fled in a number of vehicles, including a white SUV, gray BMW and white BMW.

No injuries were reported in any of the burglaries, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance video Friday of the thieves ransacking the pharmacy in Astoria on Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
