
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — In connection with the MTA, Lion Dancers performed in Grand Central Terminal, Grand Central Madison and Grand Central–42nd Street subway station on Sunday to celebrate the Lunar New Year’s Year of the Dragon.
The MTA released a video of the performance, which also includes an interview with Brian Tom, co-founder of the performance group Chinatown Community Young Lions.
"The Year of the Dragon will bring hope, wisdom and prosperity,” Tom said. “The Chinatown Community Young Lions are excited to celebrate the Lunar Year with the MTA and Asian community.”



“Mass transit connects people of all cultures throughout the region, and we’re excited to bring New Yorkers to all of this year’s Lunar New Year festivities,” MTA Acting Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Riearan said. “The MTA wishes everyone a happy and healthy new year – Gong Hei Fat Choy.”
The Chinatown Community Lions have been around for over 50 years and follow a mission of teaching, preserving and sharing Asian culture for all interested youth. There are over 500 members, and the group offers a range of programming.
