NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Two men were riding a moped together in Queens on Sunday morning when they were struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, who then crashed into parked cars lining the street, causing the vehicle to burst into flames.
The driver of a silver Volkswagen was traveling westbound on 57th Street in Middle Village when they crashed into the moped at 80th St. at around 8:20 a.m., police said.
Video obtained from the scene by 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 shows the moped driving down the street before it is struck by the Volkswagen, which then hits two parked cars in a fiery crash.
In the footage the man flees his car on foot, only to momentarily return, get inside, and run off again.
Police said that the two men riding the moped were in their 20s or 30s. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to
NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst where he succumbed to his injuries.
The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
