NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A subway rider struck another man with a hammer Saturday night, sending him tumbling from the platform onto the tracks, police said.
The attack began around 9 p.m. as a verbal dispute; the suspect grew angry with the 44-year-old victim for looking at him while they were on the northbound platform of the Broadway line at the Union Square station in Manhattan, according to police.
The suspect then allegedly brandished a hammer and whacked the man in the back of the head, causing him to fall onto the tracks.
The victim was removed safely and taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police said.
The suspect fled the scene in a white baseball hat, black t-shirt and black shorts.
