VIDEO: Teen mom leaves newborn with customer at NJ restaurant

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A newborn is said to be doing well after a teen mother walked into a Jersey City restaurant and handed the baby over before leaving.

WABC obtained surveillance video showing the 14-year-old mom entering El Patron restaurant on Wednesday afternoon.

The teen said she had found the baby and handed the child to customer Alease Scott before leaving, according to the report. Scott said part of the umbilical cord was still attached to the newborn and that she noticed the baby was having trouble breathing.

Scott, who is trained in CPR, jumped into action as police arrived with medical gear.

"Once I applied the oxygen mask to the baby, all of a sudden we heard the most beautiful cry and the baby started moving," Scott said. "She slightly opened up her eyes and then she closed her eyes, but the sweetest thing was when she got hungry and she was trying to suckle on the oxygen mask, so we knew she was okay after that."

Police later located the teen, who isn't facing charges as of Friday. The infant will be put up for adoption.
