SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – New York authorities reportedly issued a warrant Tuesday for the accused stalker of Drew Barrymore after he failed to show for an ankle monitor fitting.
A judge issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Chad Michael Busto, 43, the Southampton Town Clerk's Office told TMZ late Tuesday.
His whereabouts remain unknown, the clerk's office told NBC News on Wednesday.
Busto was arrested by Southampton Police on Aug. 24 and charged with fourth-degree stalking, to which he pleaded not guilty.
He was released without bail on Aug. 25, but a judge ordered him to stay away from Barrymore and to wear a tracking device for 60 days. He's due back in court on Sept. 12.
Busto was arrested after he allegedly went to the Hamptons and searched for her near her $6 million house in Sagaponack.
According to police, he rode a bicycle up private driveways and told residents he was looking for Barrymore, who was not home at the time. Concerned residents called 911 to report him as a suspicious person.
He was briefly detained that day but then released, only to be picked up the following day in East Hampton after detectives substantiated the stalking charge, police said.
The incident in the Hamptons came just days after he allegedly confronted Barrymore at a 92nd Street Y event on the Upper East Side.
"You know who I am," a man who gave his name as Busto shouted from the front row of the theater. "I need to see you at some point while I’m in New York."
"Oh my God! Yes. Hi!" a startled Barrymore said before she was rushed offstage by actress Reneé Rapp. Busto was escorted out of the venue by security.
After leaving court, Busto told reporters that he's "very against harm in general" and thought he and the star "had a history" after seeing her at multiple locations.
"I would tell Drew that I care about her a lot... I believe that we have a connection in our past. I believe that I met her at the Hard Rock Hotel after Lalapalooza in 2007," he said, adding he understands why his actions may have scared her. "I'm actually hoping that we can maybe repair our relationship if that needs it, but yeah for the duration of the case I'm going to have to have a stay away order."
He said he was hoping to get Barrymore’s support for his belief that he and all U.S. citizens are president.
Busto, a resident of Washington, D.C., reportedly has a lengthy arrest record, including for stalking, harassment and criminal trespass.
