NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A gas leak led three Washington Heights buildings to be evacuated Monday morning, the FDNY said.

Authorities received reports of elevated gas readings at about 10:36 a.m., pulled from a Con Edison-installed natural gas detector.

Crews from the utility company are on the scene with fire officials to locate the source of the leak.

The buildings at 1989, 1993 and 1985 Amsterdam Ave. were evacuated, impacting about 70 people, according to the FDNY.

No injuries have been reported and the operation is ongoing.

As of 4 p.m., some residents were given clearance to reenter their homes, but work by Con Edison remained ongoing.
