NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced that the city has put forth a plan to address the spike in coronavirus in nine ZIP codes across the city.
A COVID-19 "watch list" for 13 ZIP codes that haven't reached a 3 percent positivity for seven consecutive days which now includes the 11206 Williamsburg zip code.
"We are in a crucial moment" he said. "And we have to get ahead of this."
Currently, there still are nine ZIP codes are about 3 percent positivity for seven consecutive days.
Out of an abundance of caution, schools in the nine "hot spot" ZIP codes closed Tuesday, although the mayor noted that there seems to be no impact within schools.
According to de Blasio, from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5, over 35 schools in the nine zip codes of highest concern were tested with only two positives results out of 1,351 tests.
Mayor de Blasio also urged parents to to give consent to get their kids tested. for the beginning of random testing in schools this week.
Beginning this week, staff and students up to the 12th grade will be tested randomly once a month as a part of the school's testing program.
